Flexible Work Regulation for the Year 2024
The Flexible Work Regulation introduces structured guidelines for flexible employment arrangements.
The Flexible Work Regulation for the Year 2024 (“Regulation”) published in the Official Gazette on August 1, 2024, came into effect on August 31, 2024. The Regulations introduce various flexible work arrangements, including remote work, part-time work, flexible hours, compressed workweeks, and flexible year arrangements, with specific terms and conditions that both employers and employees must follow.
Such flexible arrangement shall be agreed upon by both the employee and employer, by virtue of a flexible employment contract specifying the original employment commencement date, and the flexible arrangement employment commencement date. The Regulation requires employers to provide all necessary tools and equipment for employees and prohibits discrimination based on the type of work they perform.
Additionally, the Regulation outlines mechanisms for evaluating and supervising employees, as well as providing necessary rights for flexibly-contracted employees. Employees under this Regulation must adhere to agreed-upon work and comply with agreed-upon work hours while maintaining the necessary work tools and privacy.
This move is part of the Jordanian government's efforts to enhance the work environment, improve working conditions, and strengthen the relationship between employees and employers in a way that preserves everyone's rights and contributes to enhancing economic and social stability in the country.
